As AI workloads drive data center rack densities to new extremes, liquid cooling has become a critical engineering challenge. Google’s Open Compute Project initiative — Project Deschutes aims to define a standardized 2 MW Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) to promote industry-wide interoperability.
Gamma Technologies developed a complete GT-SUITE simulation model of this CDU, converting the Open Compute Project (OCP) CAD reference into a high-fidelity 1D/3D model using GEM3D. The model supports pressure-drop prediction, thermo-fluid analysis, component-level optimization, and transient scenario testing, including chiller failures and load spikes. It also enables digital twin applications such as anomaly detection for valve failures, pump cavitation, and heat-exchanger fouling.
