Synopsys and Amazon have announced a multi-year agreement to support the engineering of Amazon’s custom chips and AWS infrastructure. Amazon, the lead customer, will expand its use of Synopsys’ application-optimised semiconductor intellectual property (IP), electronic design automation (EDA), simulation and analysis tools, and agentic AI technologies.
The companies plan to develop custom agentic AI capabilities to help engineers design, analyse, optimise and validate complex chips and systems, and to advance multiphysics solutions and optimise Synopsys software for Trainium and Graviton chips. Synopsys’ IP business is also evolving to a license-plus-royalty model. In addition, Synopsys is adopting Amazon EC2, cloud storage and Bedrock to support its own IP, EDA and AI application development. Overall, the announcement reflects a shared focus on applying AI across silicon-to-system engineering.
