Matters of the Heart: Advancing Cardiovascular Research with Simulation
The Living Heart Project: The project is bringing together top cardiovascular researchers, educators, medical device developers, regulatory agencies, and cardiologists with a shared vision: to develop and validate highly accurate, personalized digital heart models.
Tina Morrison, the then Deputy Director, Division of Applied Mechanics, Office of Science and Engineering Labs, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, FDA mentions that “Modeling and simulation can help to inform clinical trial designs, support evidence of effectiveness, identify the most relevant patients to study, and assess product safety. In some cases, in silico clinical trials have already been shown to produce similar results as human clinical trials.”
Dassault Systèmes recently marked a major milestone by publishing the world’s first industry guide on using virtual twins to fast-track clinical trials. This achievement follows a five-year collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), emphasizing the potential of simulation-driven healthcare.
