Moncton, one of Canada’s fastest-growing municipalities, and neighboring Dieppe face mounting pressure on housing, transport and green space, and traditional planning methods struggled to show how these factors interact over time.
To examine these interconnected challenges, the University of Moncton partnered with Dassault Systèmes through its Virtual Twin as a Service, creating a digital representation of the region on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, using CATIA to model buildings, GEOVIA to map terrain and land use, and SIMULIA to simulate traffic and environmental impacts. The project aimed to understand how densification along Moncton’s Mountain Road corridor could affect mobility, while also identifying ecological corridors that need to be preserved.
