Roche, a Swiss healthcare company making medicines and diagnostics, is using a digital twin within an industrial metaverse to plan Project Apollo, a new facility in North Carolina, before construction begins. Working with Siemens, NVIDIA and Accenture, the company simulates production lines, automated guided vehicles, buffers and conveyors. NVIDIA Omniverse provides the technology base, Accenture connects scattered data, and Siemens adds industrial logic.
Roche says the approach aims to forecast material flow, such as when a pallet reaches a line, instead of reviewing past data. Vendors were asked for dynamic models rather than static documents. Roche reports multi-million-dollar savings and results that exceeded its business case. It now aims to extend the approach to existing facilities.
