Luminary has introduced SHIFT-Truck, a Large Physics Model designed to predict pickup-truck aerodynamics using AI. In vehicle development, aerodynamic feedback can arrive after designers have approved a shape, making changes difficult. SHIFT-Truck aims to provide this feedback earlier, while designs can still be adjusted. Using vehicle geometry as input, it predicts time-averaged surface pressure and wall shear stress, from which aerodynamic forces are calculated without running a new simulation for each design.
The model is trained on detailed, scale-resolving simulations of the Generic Truck Utility, a published, non-proprietary reference geometry for pickup and SUV aerodynamics. High-fidelity simulations remain necessary to validate selected designs and extend the model’s coverage. Luminary has shared a demo of the model and made its datasets publicly available.
