CENTUM Uses MathWorks Tools to Develop Lifeseeker, a Cellular-Based Rescue Beacon System

Spanish company CENTUM has developed Lifeseeker, a cellular-based detection system that aims to turn ordinary cell phones into locator beacons for search-and-rescue teams. The system converts a helicopter into a mobile cell tower, connecting only to a specific missing person’s phone while filtering out others nearby.
To design this technology, CENTUM‘s engineers use MATLAB and Simulink from MathWorks for simulation and modelling before building physical prototypes. Toolboxes such as Communications, Signal Processing, RF, Antenna, Phased Array System, Mapping, and Navigation aim to support signal generation, geolocation, and hardware emulation. This simulation-based approach aims to help CENTUM adapt Lifeseeker to work across different cellular generations and network configurations worldwide, while also laying the groundwork for AI-based tools like Deep Learning Toolbox as the industry moves toward 6G.
