Altair helps Magnoric in Advancing Magnetic Refrigeration Design

Magnoric is a France-based company developing magnetic refrigeration systems based on the magnetocaloric effect. Its cooling units rely on Active Magnetocaloric Regenerators (AMRs), where heat transfer, fluid flow, and magnetic fields interact within tightly packed geometries. Designing these systems presents challenges such as uneven flow distribution, pressure losses, and mechanical constraints, making iterative physical prototyping time and resource intensive.

To address this, Magnoric used Altair SimLab to build integrated multiphysics models that combine CFD, electromagnetics, and structural analysis. The simulations were used to study flow uniformity, thermal exchange, and pressure behavior across AMR configurations. This approach aims to support design validation in a virtual environment and reduce dependence on experimental iterations, contributing to the development of refrigeration technologies that seek lower energy consumption and reduced use of conventional refrigerants.
