AFRL-Backed Study Validates PanX Metal AM Simulation

Research supported by the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Oklahoma Aerospace and Defense Innovation Institute at the University of Oklahoma evaluated PanOptimization’s PanX software for simulating thermal and mechanical behaviour in metal additive manufacturing.

The study examined complete build volumes containing multiple parts, comparing simulated interlayer temperatures with in-situ measurements and predicted high P-integral regions with observed crack locations. It also assessed different part geometries and build layouts. The findings support the use of PanX in digital twin frameworks aimed at identifying manufacturing risks earlier in high-value AM applications.
